What You Can Achieve with LASIK
Laser Vision Correction can improve your unaided visual acuity so that you can depend less on glasses and contact lenses. In fact, after Lasik, most patients no longer need glasses or contact lenses for their day-to-day routines. It’s an effective treatment for nearsightedness, astigmatism, and mild to moderate farsightedness.
Candidates for LASIK
Generally, patients who are looking to use glasses or contact lenses less are good candidates for LASIK. This procedure is FDA-approved for patients aged 18 and older, and ideal candidates will have a vision prescription that hasn’t been altered within the past two years. The eyes must also be healthy at the time of the procedure.
At The Eye Clinic of Florida, our team will perform a preoperative exam to check if you’re a good candidate for Laser Vision Correction..
How LASIK Works
LASIK or Laser Vision Correction changes the curvature of the cornea. It’s performed in two parts. To start, your doctor will use a femtosecond laser to make a flap in the cornea. This exposes the underlying eye tissue. Then, with the excimer laser, your doctor can remove extremely thin layers from the cornea to reshape the eye into a new prescription. Once the laser procedure is done, your doctor will reposition the flap, which readheres without the need for sutures.
Recovering from Lasik
After Lasik, patients typically experience a mild dry eye sensation that subsides within 6 to 12 hours after the procedure. Most patients can go back to their regular routines the day after LASIK surgery.
You’ll likely notice an improvement to your vision immediately, with the results continuing to improve for one to two weeks after treatment.
